  • Advised on a feature film about British Resistance.
  • Produced our own Auxiliary Ale.
  • Been able to confirm to over 30 relatives that their loved ones were Aux Unit members.
  • Organised two large events celebrating the Aux Units as well as other trips for members.
  • Produced two DVD’s.
  • Instigated and set up the ‘Coleshill Uncovered‘ project.
  • Set up the ‘Coleshill Reborn‘ project and also investigated the tunnel system under Coleshill House.

A group of rare images of Coleshill House have recently been shown to us by the Pleydell-Bouverie family.

One of these images shows servicemen in the grounds of the Coleshill estate.

The pictures have been kindly donated by Rupert Pleydell-Bouverie and allow our researchers to learn more of the secret wartime headquarters.

The pictures appear on various pages of our tour of the Coleshill estate here and we have also added a few below.

Please note: These images are copyright to the Pleydell-Bouverie family and must not be copied or used without their express permission.

Today we launched our new interactive multimedia timeline for the Auxiliary Units.

The timeline is a unique way of navigating the history of the Aux Units. It allows you to visually map important Aux events and decisions with general WW2 events. See just how ahead or behind Hitler we really were.

You can also listen to audio relating to some stories, watch video and click through to web links.

The timeline is still fairly new technology and will be developed with new content being added all the time.

An autobiographical novel set in Duns, Scotland. The Nazi’s have invaded Britain.

Bill Watson has brought this story alive and paints a vivid picture with a true depiction of life during those dark uncertain times under occupation, especially as he personally experienced a similar kind of harsh imprisonment as a prisoner of war in Germany.

This story is set in and around the Scottish Border town of Duns, where Bill was born and brought up, an area that had its fair share of Auxiliary Unit patrols all along the Scottish Borders which were located at strategic road and rail links. In the face of overwhelming odds and faced with a long brutal occupation they were prepared to give the ultimate sacrifice. Bill completed the manuscript in April 2004 which included a dedication to his late wife, Betty. Bill’s dream was to have it published one day, sadly Bill died in November 2004, aged 80 and his work remained unpublished.

In 2011 the Coleshill Auxiliary Research Team (CART) a national team of Auxiliary Unit researchers, learned that Bill Watson was in fact an Auxilier with Duns Patrol. They managed to obtained the rights to publish the book from Bill’s son.

Now is the time to tell that story……………….

Yesterday teams from CART and Subterranea Britannica explored the water tunnels and the cellars next to the remains of Coleshill House.

Work started at 9 am and ran till 4pm and 8 people in total took part. The purpose of the work was two fold. Firstly CART wanted to see if the cellars were used for anything during the war and they also needed to measure the complete area for their Reborn project.

Secondly Sub Brit wanted to explore the water mines and also make an assessment on their condition for the landowners, the National Trust.

Both organisations had a great day. Images and video from the day can be seen here
