It is with great sadness that I report the death of another war hero.

Tommy Cummings was a Royal Scot and a member of the Auxiliary Scout Section before joining Bsqn 1 SAS and serving his country abroad including taking part in the famous Operation Bulbasket.

His truly amazing life story can be explored here

Thanks to David Blair, our Scottish researcher and close friend of Tommy for the Obituary.

We Will Remember Them

The National Trust at Coleshill are planning another event next year. This event is happening mainly due to the overwhelming success of last years event on July 4th.

This info was taken from their website. It is uncertain at this time if CART will be involved. Bookmark this page on our site for more info.

Witness first hand life as a trainee Auxiliary Reserve at the grand opening of a replica WWII underground operational base at Coleshill, home of the British Resistance. Commemmorate the loss of Coleshill House on the 60th anniversary of the fire.

Step back in time at our nostalgic family weekend remembering the secret wartime volunteers, who trained up as Britain’s last line of defence in case of invasion. Check out the 70-year old Operational Base (OB), the Guard House and the Trust’s brand new underground Heritage-Lottery-funded replica OB. Get in the mood at our 1940′s street party with a Big Swing Band, drill practice with the Auxiliers, food, talks, art exhibition, re-enactments, entertainment, and a commemorative Church Service.

A document has been shown to us which we suspect was created at Coleshill.

It is very insightful and is a detailed guide on discipline in the Operational Base as well as a typical 24 hours operational activity for an Auxilier during the Winter.

A must read for any fan of the Auxiliary Units. You can see the page here. As a special Christmas treat we have also re-created it as a downloadable PDF file.

Stephen Lewins, our CIO for Northumberland has just sent us a report on the Longhorsley Special Duties Out Station in Northumberland.

The radio operators were Mr Charles Webb, a solicitor and the Reverant Father Wright (left) who was also the Air Raid Warden, a good choice for cover as this gave him access to many places in the village and round about at times when others were in doors, no questions asked.

We are pleased to announce that Phil Evans has been appointed as our County Information Officer (CIO) for Kent and Andy Gwynne is our new CIO for Yorkshire.

Both Andy and Phil have already been CART members for sometime and have contributed in many ways to our research. We now have 13 CIO’s researching for us around the UK.

We wish them all the best with their forthcoming work and we will be supporting them in anyway we can. Their research will be published on our website in due course.

We have now added a report by CART member Andy Gwynne to the site.

The Aldbrough Auxiliary Unit from East Yorkshire can be seen here

This is Andy’s first report for CART and he has also created a video on the location.

Andy says he has not seen any images of this patrols OB on the net or any books and suspects that his images are a CART exclusive.

We have now moved all the information of locations used by the Special Duties Section to its own page on the site.

The Special Duties Wireless Section (SDS) operated in the same areas as the Auxiliary Unit patrols but they were completely separate and unknown to the patrols.

See the list of their radio bunker locations here
