Ashbrittle Auxiliary Unit 8

We have added a very detailed report on the Ashbrittle Auxiliary Unit by Aux researcher Chris Perry and our Devon CIO Nina Hannaford.

The patrol were based at the village of Ashbrittle, 6 miles west of Wellington in south west Somerset.

What makes Ashbrittle’s Operational Base special is the level of work that went into the chimney and the remaining concrete air vent base moulded from concrete to resemble a tree.

See many images and more info on this patrol here.

Today we have added another three patrol reports to the site.

Godshill Auxiliary Unit Patrol – Isle Of Wight

Rora/Longside Auxiliary Unit Patrol – Aberdeenshire

Crimond Auxiliary Unit Patrol – Aberdeenshire

They are just basic reports that include names of the Auxilier’s but we have found that this normally means that members of the public and their relatives help us fill in the gaps.

Today Stephen Lewins has added all the recorded names of members of the Auxiliary Unit on the Isle of Wight. The names have been added to this page for now and will be moved to their own patrol reports when a local researcher is found on the Island.

Their pre invasion role would be observation of the English Channel for German raids and the protection of vital island infrastructure including the allies PLUTO pipe line to France. After the reorganisation the patrols became part of no.14 Area (Hampshire) in Groups 9 & 10.
