Our Devon and Somerset researchers have met up with a couple connected to the fabulous Cobbaton Combat Collection (here).

“We investigated possible OB sites around Shirwell in North Devon. We still need some confirmation, so if there are any family members out there who can point us in the right direction or confirm what we have found please contact us (here).
After a great lunch (we are civilised researchers!) we moved onto Bideford.
Sadly we couldn’t find anyone to get permission to access one recorded possible OB site. That will have to wait for another day.
We went to a couple of sites where bomb stores were recorded. Perfect distance from the OB for different targets. One site has now been built on and the other is sadly a wood full of rubbish !
An Auxiliers daughter told us that explosives were also stored under the floor of the ‘Old Mission Chapel’. We found that in a bit of a sorry state but again perfect distance from the recorded OB.
A good wander around the area gave us a real feel for the Patrol movements and targets. A great day out !”

You can now take a tour of the newish replica Operational Base at GHQ Coleshill thanks to our new video with CART researcher Bill Ashby.

The OB was built thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It is a replica of the existing wartime Operational Base elsewhere on the Estate, that needs protecting.

It has mainly been constructed by volunteers with Coleshill local Roger Green now conducting many of the tours.

Margam Auxiliary Unit Patrol 2Today we have added a report on the Margam Auxiliary Unit by new Aux researcher Jason Grey (left).

Jason’s grandfather Aubrey Groom was the patrol leader and as far as we are aware this location has never been published before.

You can read Jason’s excellent report here

Hemyock Special Duties Outstation 5

Today we added a very special location to our Special Duties Branch Micro-site.

The Hemyock SDB Outstation in Devon.

This EXCLUSIVE report by CART CIO’s Nina Hannaford and Dr Will Ward shows just how well preserved the bunker is and the remaining is fascinating.

You can read the full report and see a plan of the space here

CART-LiveToday our CIO for East Yorkshire and his team broadcast a series of videos live during an investigation to find an Operational Base in the wilds of East Yorkshire.

The three hour journey showed how hard it is for our researchers to find underground Operational Base’s designed not to be found.

At around 11:00 am they found a pile of bricks next to a large depression which they believe may have been the location of the bunker.

If this is the case it has long since been destroyed.

The live broadcasts allowed us to share the experience within minutes of them finding the location and gave a real insight it how hard the work is.

More research into the location will follow but you can see the videos here.

As we were preparing a re-vamped version of our Weapons & Explosives DVD we came across a short piece of video which we have never shared with anyone.

It features the late Keith Blaxhall guiding Coleshill trained Auxilier Bob Millard around the Coleshill training Operational Base.

Keith was the Head Warden at Coleshill for many years and he loved sharing all his knowledge. Bob explains how things were done in his OB.
