CART-LiveToday our CIO for East Yorkshire and his team broadcast a series of videos live during an investigation to find an Operational Base in the wilds of East Yorkshire.

The three hour journey showed how hard it is for our researchers to find underground Operational Base’s designed not to be found.

At around 11:00 am they found a pile of bricks next to a large depression which they believe may have been the location of the bunker.

If this is the case it has long since been destroyed.

The live broadcasts allowed us to share the experience within minutes of them finding the location and gave a real insight it how hard the work is.

More research into the location will follow but you can see the videos here.

Major Robert Charlton HallThe little known story about the Auxiliary Units and their roll in the D-Day preparations by Stephen Lewins and others.

During the war some Auxiliers were asked if they would volunteer for overseas service. This service was to train as paratroopers and to sabotage the German supplies behind enemy lines. Some, as you may be aware, did leave the Auxiliary Units and joined the newly formed SAS. The scheme ran out of steam and the training did not gather much pace and eventually stopped altogether.

Find out what happened during this important training in our new article here

Bideford East of the Water Auxiliary Unit 7We have recently added a comprehensive patrol report on Devon’s Bideford (East the Water) Auxiliary Unit Patrol to the site.

Our Devon CIO worked with a local historian called Louise Howell on the report which can be seen here

Look out for the camouflaged runway. Very clever idea.

All the Devon reports can be seen here.
