March
The British Government and MOD have never issued a medal or badge to members of
the Auxiliary Units to acknowledge the brave training conducted and time served in the Unit post
WW2.
Many people are also unaware that if a member of the Auxiliary Unit served more than 3 years
in service they are entitled to a Defence
Medal. Relatives of Aux members can also apply for this medal which can take approx 4
months to arrive. To apply for this please see the forms here.
Please only apply for this if you have very strong evidence to believe your loved one was
in the Aux Unit. We don't want to use up their valuable time. If you're unsure then get in touch with us
first.
Why do members of the Auxiliary Unit deserve a
badge? They did not see active service.
CART feels that surviving members of the Auxiliary Unit or their relatives should be awarded
a specific badge and letter of commendation from the MOD or government as they trained to such a high level to
fight a potential invading army and were prepared to just leave their loved ones in the dead of night and never see
them again, no goodbyes, no writing letters home from the front line. Then they would have lived underground until
they were caught, tortured or shot.
We appreciate that there are certain servicemen who have actually seen action that are also
fighting their own war now to get some form of recognition or medal and we do not want to distract from this. They
are heroes in our eyes.
The following groups who did not see action directly have been awarded medals for their time
serving this country.
Women's Land Army.
Women's Timber Corps.
How do we plan to make it
happen?
If you feel it is only right and fair that these men and women are awarded their own badge
then please let us know.
