Thank you for selecting information on the Maryculter Auxiliary Unit Patrol and their Operational Base in Scotland. The info & images below has been supplied by CART's Aberdeenshire CIO, Alan Stewart.

Research into this patrol and its training is ongoing. The information below is published from various sources and is by no means conclusive. If information is not listed below it does not necessarily mean the information is not out there but normally means CART researchers have not found it yet.

If you have any information on this patrol or can help with research in this area please do contact us.

Maryculter is several miles from Aberdeen to the west.  The area is part of Royal Deeside and at the time had a railway line and bridges over the River Dee. The area also has a road that allows Aberdeen to bypassed to / from Stonehaven direction

The GC Captain W.S Smart of The Haven, Maryculter  and the Asst GC was 2/Liet A.Forbes of The Hut, Kirktown of Maryculter.

Given the close proximity to Milltimber, the names have been assumed based on the River Dee splitting the areas. Please also see Milltimber Patrol report for names.

Unknown, may have been just to the South of Maryculter in heavily wooded area. Research is ongoing.

The likely targets would have been bridges over the River Dee. This would be a natural barrier for invasion troops trying to head North or South.  There is a road between Stonehaven in the South that would allow bypassing of Aberdeen that the patrol would likely monitor / attack.

At Portlethen, there was a Chain Home Radar station, given the proximity to Maryculter, this could have been a target.

It is assumed they would have used the standard equipment issued to Aux Units.

Nothing currently.
