The son of John and Caroline he married Lily Walters in 1919.

Ardyn was a WW1 veteran serving from 7th September 1914 to 7th August 1917 as a Private in the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry in the Labour Corps.

He was invalided out due to wounds and received the Silver War Badge.
